Soccer
The Beaver Valley Soccer Club (BVSC) operates under the Beaver Valley Athletic Association (BVAA) in Thornbury.
In 1994, the Club was founded and ran a program in Thornbury for 30 registered players. 32 registered in 1995, 34 in 1996. 30 in 1997 registered paid $20 each,
In 1998 fees were $35 each and registration numbers were: 36-U7's and 24-U9's. The BVSC joined the GBYSL in 1998 and entered 3-U7 and 2-U9 teams in the travelling co-ed recreational house league program in the Grey Bruce Youth Soccer League. Clubs included Chatsworth, Bognar, Markdale, Durham, Thornbury and Flesherton. Thornbury played at the BVCC and also on the school field (BVCS). In 1999, 131 registered paying $40 each, 2001 had 161 registered paying $50 each, 2004 133 registered, 2006 fees were $70, 2007 fees were $75, 2008 fees were $80. Fees have not increased since 2008.
The league converted to using even numbered age groups in 2008 - U6-U18. BVSC decided to have all U6-U8 teams not travel - all practices/games are played at Tomahawk. Only U10 and older teams play in the GBYSL.
In 2007, The Town of Blue Mountains purchased the Tomahawk property from Tom Kritsch. 3 full size fields were ready to play on in 2008 and the 2 mini fields were opened in 2010.
The TimBits soccer program was started in 2008 with 50 players. Registration grew to 100 in 2009 and remains at this number each year. Players are divided into U4 and U6 age groups. Within each age group 5 coloured teams are formed with 10 players on each team.
Thornbury brought home the GBYSL league championships in the U10, U12, U14 and U18 age groups in 2009.
In 2010, the Club had 339 registered players playing on 16 teams in the GBYSL from U10-U18. Clubs in the GBYSL in 2010 were Chatsworth/Bognar, Flesherton, Dundalk, Markdale, Meaford & Thornbury. Thornbury's teams were 3-U10, 2-U12, 3-U14, 2-U16 and 2-U18. The 4-U8 teams, 5-U4 teams and 5-U6 teams all play at home. Thornbury won the league championships for U10, U12, U16 & U18.
2011, registrations hit 312 playing on 13 teams in the GBYSL from U10-U18. Clubs in the GBYSL in 2011 are Chatsworth, Dundalk, Markdale, Meaford & Thornbury. Thornbury's teams that played in the GBYSL: 2-U10, 3-U12, 3-U14, 2-U16 and 1-U18. The 2-U8 teams play at home along with the 5-U4 and 5-U6 TimBits teams. Thornbury won the league championships for U12, U14, U16 and U18.
The GBYSL plays under the South West Region Youth League (SWRSA) and follows the Ontario Soccer Association(OSA) rules.

Soccer Announcment
We would like to inform all BVAA members that the BVAA will continue to run our soccer program. The proposed separation of soccer from the BVAA was unsuccessful. Registration will start in February. If anyone is interested in helping with this committee please contact one of the BVAA executives.
